The Obidient Movement has urged the Supreme Court of Nigeria to urgently resolve the lingering leadership dispute within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that prolonged uncertainty could strain opposition politics and complicate preparations for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the group said the case—now before the Supreme Court of Nigeria—has gone beyond an internal party struggle and has begun to carry wider implications for democratic stability and electoral readiness.
According to the movement, the unresolved tussle within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is already generating uncertainty among stakeholders and could weaken efforts at political alignment and coalition-building ahead of the next election cycle.
It stressed that a clear and final judicial pronouncement is needed to stabilise the party structure, restore internal confidence, and provide direction for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as it monitors party activities.
“The longer this matter remains unresolved, the more it risks feeding internal tension and slowing down democratic preparation,” the statement said.
The group also warned that opposition fragmentation at this stage could reduce voter confidence in alternative platforms and distort broader efforts to build a competitive political environment.
While expressing trust in the judiciary, the movement maintained that a timely ruling would reinforce constitutional order and help refocus political actors on governance and national priorities rather than internal disputes.
Dr. Tanko added that Nigerians expect the Supreme Court to provide clarity that strengthens—not weakens—democratic stability as the country edges closer to 2027.
