The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Niger State has called for unity and discipline among its members as it intensifies preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that internal cohesion remains key to unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at all levels.
The call was made in Minna on Friday by former Minister of Youths and Sports Development and prominent ADC leader in the state, Barrister Abdulrahman Gimba, during a dinner with newly elected state executive members.
Gimba urged party members to put aside personal interests and focus on strengthening the party structure, warning that divisions could undermine its growing political momentum.
He alleged that the APC-led administration at the federal level is deliberately working to weaken opposition parties, particularly the ADC, ahead of the 2027 elections due to what he described as the party’s rising acceptance among Nigerians.
According to him, there are “calculated efforts” to disrupt opposition activities, but he insisted such moves would fail, saying Nigerians are increasingly demanding change at the ballot.
He expressed confidence that the ADC is positioned to take over governance at all levels, stressing that the party must remain committed to democratic principles, internal discipline, and engagement with citizens.
Gimba also emphasized the importance of credible candidate selection, advising the party to field competent and widely accepted aspirants during primaries to enhance its electoral chances.
“In selecting the best candidates, the party will ease its burden and strengthen its chances of victory,” he said.
In a separate remark, the Niger State ADC Chairman, Abdulhamid El-Waziri, accused the administration of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of mismanaging state resources and failing to deliver meaningful development to residents.
El-Waziri claimed that despite substantial allocations from the federation account, the state government had not commissioned any major project in the last three years.
He described the APC-led administration in Niger as “wasteful,” alleging that it has worsened poverty levels and deepened hardship among citizens.
He further argued that growing insecurity, economic difficulties, and unmet campaign promises have left residents disillusioned, adding that the ADC is confident of victory in 2027 due to what he called widespread public dissatisfaction with the current government.
