A coalition of female grassroots mobilizers under the Tinubu/Shettima 2023 Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deepen his administration’s engagement with women leaders who contributed significantly to his electoral victory.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Hajiya Rekiya Abdullahi, who addressed journalists on behalf of the women’s wing of the PCC, emphasized the importance of political inclusion and recognition for women who played pivotal roles in the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 general elections.
According to Abdullahi, the group represents over 550 women leaders drawn from more than 1,000 support groups that were active during the campaign. She noted that the energy, sacrifice, and commitment displayed by the women across Nigeria should be harnessed in the current governance process.
“These women stood firm during the 2023 campaign—mobilizing, canvassing, and sacrificing for the success of our party. Many committed personal resources, time, and effort in the name of democracy and national progress,” she said.
While expressing confidence in the leadership of President Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the group appealed for a more structured engagement framework that ensures those who contributed meaningfully to the campaign are not left behind.
“We are not asking for too much—just a recognition of our efforts and an opportunity to serve in various capacities,” Abdullahi added. “Democracy thrives on inclusion, and we believe that our contributions at the grassroots level should translate into meaningful representation.”
Abdullahi acknowledged that President Tinubu is running an administration focused on national development, but she stressed that party loyalists and campaign foot soldiers, especially women, should not be overlooked in appointments and policy consultations.
She also cautioned that disengagement could dampen enthusiasm heading into future election cycles, especially as 2027 approaches.
“Our concern is not about entitlement. It is about sustaining morale, building trust, and keeping the grassroots connected to the heart of this administration. We are ready to continue our support—as we always have—but we also seek a voice and a place in this government.”
The group reiterated its support for the APC and its confidence in the capacity of the Tinubu administration to deliver on its promises. They expressed hope that their appeal would be taken in good faith and followed by constructive engagement from party leaders and government stakeholders.
