Peter Obi’s Bauchi Visit Signals Renewed Push for Cross-Regional Dialogue

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi on Wednesday deepened his nationwide consultation tour with a visit to Bauchi State, where he met Governor Bala Mohammed alongside prominent Igbo leaders in what appeared to be a renewed push for national dialogue and political bridge-building.
Obi said the engagement was part of broader efforts aimed at strengthening unity and fostering cooperation across Nigeria’s diverse political and regional lines.
He described the discussions as “insightful,” noting that the conversations focused on building a “united, secure, productive and progressive Nigeria that cares for all, especially the less privileged.”
The meeting, which brought together political and community figures, also explored areas of governance cooperation and the urgent need to address widening socio-economic pressures across the country.
Governor Bala Mohammed hosted the delegation at the Government House, where discussions reportedly centred on national cohesion, development priorities, and the importance of sustained engagement among political actors beyond party boundaries.
Obi, who has continued a series of consultations since the 2023 general election, has increasingly framed his engagements as part of a long-term effort to encourage inclusive governance and reduce political and ethnic tensions in national discourse.
In a brief post-meeting remark, he reiterated his optimism about Nigeria’s future.
“A new Nigeria is possible,” he said.
The Bauchi visit adds to a growing list of Obi’s outreach engagements across regions, reflecting what allies describe as an ongoing attempt to build consensus around national renewal, civic inclusion, and social equity.
