Former Rivers State governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has challenged the Federal Government to prove its handling of the petrol crisis by bringing the pump price down to ₦600 per litre.
Amaechi said he would personally visit a filling station to verify the price, adding that he would withdraw as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate and campaign for President Bola Tinubu if petrol sells for ₦600 the following morning.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Amaechi said the removal of fuel subsidy had increased the hardship faced by Nigerians without sufficient measures to cushion its impact.
He said Nigerians could join him at a filling station to confirm the pump price.
“If fuel has come down to ₦600, I will campaign for President Tinubu,” Amaechi said.
The ADC chieftain also described the 2027 presidential contest in stark terms, saying Nigerians would be faced with a choice between what he characterised as “life and death.”
Amaechi further argued that the Tinubu administration’s economic policies had worsened the pressure on households, particularly through the rising cost of petrol.
His remarks come amid renewed political arguments over petrol prices and the economic consequences of subsidy removal as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
