Police investigators have unravelled the trail behind the death of a man whose body was dumped along the Kubwa Expressway after detectives traced his missing mobile phone to his last known contact.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Sanusi, said the investigation began after the man’s family reported him missing and his body was later discovered near Katampe under the bridge on August 26.
Investigators initially considered the possibility of a “one chance” attack, but the missing phone provided a fresh lead.
Sanusi said detectives tracked the man’s last communication before identifying and arresting Mrs Rukayat Muhammed, a resident of Garki Area 2.
The police alleged that Muhammed had been in a romantic relationship with the deceased and had checked into Good Samaritan Guest House, Gwarimpa, with him.
According to the CP, Muhammed allegedly discovered that the man was no longer breathing but left the hotel without alerting the police, taking his mobile phone with her.
The investigation then uncovered a second layer involving the hotel.
Sanusi said hotel workers later found the man’s body inside the room after they could not establish contact with the occupants.
Rather than report the discovery, two workers, Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, allegedly removed the body from the hotel and transported it to the Kubwa Expressway, where they abandoned it under the Katampe bridge.
The police said the move appeared intended to shield the hotel and its management from the incident.
Sanusi said investigators were still working to establish the actual cause of death and determine the precise roles of the arrested woman and the hotel workers.
He warned that anyone found to have participated in the man’s death or the concealment and abandonment of his body would face the law.
The case, which began as a missing-person investigation, has now widened into a police probe involving the deceased’s final movements, a missing phone and an alleged attempt to conceal the circumstances surrounding his death.
