The Allied Peoples Movement has called on President Bola Tinubu to abandon his reported 2027 re-election bid and support its presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
The party made the demand in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, in which it criticised the Tinubu administration over its handling of the economy, insecurity and governance.
APM alleged that the President had become increasingly detached from the day-to-day running of government and accused unelected aides and family members of exercising excessive influence over the administration.
The party also criticised Tinubu over his absence from some international engagements, particularly the 2026 United Nations General Assembly, arguing that Nigeria’s interests required stronger presidential representation.
On security, APM alleged that Tinubu had failed to demonstrate sufficient presence in communities affected by terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.
The party also blamed the administration’s economic policies, including fuel subsidy removal, tax reforms and borrowing, for worsening hardship and putting additional pressure on households and businesses.
APM cited unemployment, poverty and Nigeria’s rising debt burden as evidence of what it described as the administration’s failure to deliver economic renewal. The figures and some of the party’s broader claims were not independently verified.
The party said Nigeria needed what it described as “energetic” and “visionary” leadership and pointed to Makinde’s record as governor of Oyo State as the basis for its support.
APM therefore urged Tinubu to reconsider seeking another term and, instead, back Makinde in the 2027 presidential election.
The statement represents the position of the APM and its assessment of the Tinubu administration.
