The Guild of Interfaith Media Practitioners Nigeria (GIMP-Nigeria) has felicitated with Muslim faithful across the country on the successful completion of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, while urging faith leaders to strengthen efforts toward fostering interfaith harmony and national unity.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by the Secretary of its Governing Board, Barrister Samuel Egburonu, the Guild described Eid-ul-Fitr as a moment that reflects the enduring values of sacrifice, discipline, compassion, and generosity.
The organisation noted that the celebration goes beyond marking the end of fasting, serving as an opportunity for reflection and reaffirmation of shared commitments to peace and coexistence.
“Eid-ul-Fitr is a reminder of the moral and spiritual values that bind humanity together. It is a time for renewal and a recommitment to peaceful living,” the statement said.
GIMP-Nigeria emphasized the influential role of religious leaders in shaping public discourse and guiding societal behaviour, urging Muslim clerics, Christian leaders, and traditional rulers to consistently promote messages of unity, tolerance, and mutual respect.
According to the Guild, faith leaders must act as bridges of understanding in a diverse society like Nigeria, rather than voices that deepen divisions.
It further warned that religious intolerance, hate speech, and misinformation continue to pose risks to national stability, calling for more responsible communication across both religious and media platforms.
Egburonu urged media practitioners to uphold professionalism and ethical reporting, stressing the importance of content that encourages dialogue and discourages conflict.
“Media professionals must remain mindful of their role in shaping public perception and work actively to promote narratives that strengthen interfaith relations,” he stated.
Reaffirming its commitment, GIMP-Nigeria said it will continue to advance interfaith engagement through advocacy, capacity building, and strategic communication initiatives aimed at strengthening national cohesion.
The Guild also called on government institutions and civil society organisations to support inclusive policies that promote religious harmony, protect freedoms, and address societal concerns through dialogue.
It encouraged Nigerians to reflect on the values of empathy, tolerance, and respect as guiding principles for peaceful coexistence.
“On behalf of the Guild of Interfaith Media Practitioners Nigeria, we congratulate Muslim faithful on this occasion of Eid. May the celebration bring peace, unity, and progress to our nation,” the statement added.
