Women leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory have commenced grassroots mobilisation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general elections.
The mobilisation effort came to the fore on Thursday when the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, met with the FCT APC Woman Leader, Hajia Farida Odangi Suleiman, and members of her executive committee.
Special adviser on Media to FCT, Austine Elemue in a statement quoted Mahmoud as urging APC women to leverage their networks and grassroots structures to strengthen support for Tinubu and other party candidates ahead of the elections.
The minister also called for greater unity within the party, acknowledging that some APC members feel excluded from the party’s activities.
She advocated reconciliation and wider inclusion, urging women leaders to work towards bringing aggrieved and disengaged members back into the party ahead of 2027.
Mahmoud said women’s participation would be crucial to the APC’s electoral success and encouraged them to collaborate with male party leaders in building a stronger political structure across the FCT.
The minister also highlighted ongoing infrastructure development in the nation’s capital under the Tinubu administration, while stressing the need to ensure that residents across the FCT’s six Area Councils benefit from government interventions.
The FCT APC Woman Leader, Suleiman, pledged to mobilise women across the territory for Tinubu’s re-election and the success of other APC candidates.
She, however, stressed that the party must intensify its grassroots engagement if it hopes to secure victory in 2027.
Suleiman called for town hall meetings and direct engagement with residents to explain government policies and programmes and address concerns within local communities.
She expressed confidence in Mahmoud’s leadership, describing her as a “mother” and a capable leader who could unite APC women ahead of the elections.
The meeting ended with the presentation of Tinubu “Torchbearers” to Mahmoud on behalf of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The development highlights the growing focus on grassroots mobilisation and internal party reconciliation as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
