Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, has called on leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to close ranks and focus on reconciliation following the recent Court of Appeal judgment concerning the party’s national convention.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the lawmaker urged party members across the country to treat the ruling as an opportunity to restore unity and reposition the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to her, the party must now move beyond prolonged litigation and concentrate on rebuilding its internal structures in order to present itself as a credible alternative for Nigerians.
“The Court of Appeal has spoken, and as a democratic party that respects the rule of law, our focus should now shift from litigation to reconciliation and rebuilding,” she said. “The strength of the PDP lies in its unity and shared commitment to providing credible leadership for the country.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan warned that continued internal disputes could undermine the political aspirations of loyal party members preparing to contest various elective positions under the PDP platform.
She stressed that political parties exist primarily to provide opportunities for citizens who wish to serve their communities and the nation through public office.
“Our members at the grassroots — those aspiring to serve in State Houses of Assembly, the House of Representatives, the Senate, governorship positions and even the presidency — should not become casualties of unresolved disagreements among leaders,” she said.
The senator therefore urged leaders of the party to demonstrate statesmanship and embrace dialogue and compromise in resolving outstanding issues.
“At moments like this, leadership demands that we rise above personal interests and work for the greater good of our party and our country,” she added.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also called on stakeholders to work towards organizing an inclusive and credible national convention that would comply fully with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
She noted that such a process would help rebuild confidence within the party and reassure Nigerians that the PDP remains committed to democratic principles.
“Nigerians are watching, and we must demonstrate that the PDP is united, inclusive and ready to provide leadership for the nation,” she said.
The lawmaker reaffirmed her commitment to the unity and progress of the party and encouraged members nationwide to remain hopeful and focused as the PDP prepares for the next phase of its political journey toward the 2027 elections.
