The National Speaker of the Women Parliament of the Social Democratic Party, Sa’adatu Abdullahi has called on Nigerian women to take a more active role in leadership and governance as the world marks International Women’s Day 2026.
In a message commemorating the global event, Abdullahi extended warm greetings to women across the country, describing them as the backbone of society whose resilience and contributions continue to shape families, communities and the nation.
She noted that women have consistently demonstrated courage, determination and leadership across different sectors, stressing that their participation remains vital for national development.
“Women continue to demonstrate leadership and determination in shaping a better future for our people. Their voices and participation are essential for national progress,” she said.
The SDP chieftain encouraged women to take bold steps by registering as members of the party, emphasizing that the party is committed to inclusiveness, social justice and creating opportunities for women to actively participate in decision-making processes.
According to her, women must also strengthen solidarity among themselves to ensure greater representation in political and governance structures.
“Let us use this day not only to celebrate our achievements but also to strengthen our collective voice in building a Nigeria where women are fully represented and empowered,” she added.
Abdullahi concluded by celebrating the achievements of Nigerian women and reaffirming the party’s commitment to advancing gender inclusion and empowerment.
“Your strength, courage and vision continue to inspire hope for a better tomorrow. Together, we can shape a more just, equitable and prosperous nation,” she said.
