Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has written to Mrs. Unoma Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, advising her to stay out of the ongoing allegations of sexual harassment and intimidation against her husband.
In a letter dated March 1, 2025, and signed by her lawyer, Victor Giwa, Akpoti-Uduaghan insisted that the allegations were personal to the Senate President and that he should be the one to defend himself.
The letter, titled “Stay Away from Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Sexual Harassment and Intimidation Allegation Against Sen. President Godswill Akpabio; To Safeguard Your Sanity and That of Your Family,” urged Mrs. Akpabio to refrain from making further statements on the matter.
The dispute between the two lawmakers began after Akpoti-Uduaghan refused to sit in a designated seat during a Senate session, citing Order 10 of the Senate Standing Rules.
The situation worsened when she appeared on Arise News, alleging that Akpabio had blocked her motions, intimidated her, and harassed her after she rejected his advances.
Mrs. Akpabio, in response, dismissed the claims during a press conference in Abuja, describing them as baseless and emphasizing a long-standing cordial relationship between their families.
However, Akpoti-Uduaghan, in her letter, maintained that she had endured harassment from Akpabio for too long and was now compelled to speak out.
“Our Client is not desirous of calling you out into the unfortunate saga concerning her allegations against the Senate President and wishes that you restrain yourself from delving into the obscene circumstances,” the letter stated.
She further asserted that she had concrete evidence to support her claims and urged Mrs. Akpabio to allow her husband to handle his own defense for the sake of her “sanity and that of her family.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan reaffirmed her commitment to standing up for Nigerian women, stating that she would continue to advocate for justice and fairness in leadership.
