The Kogi State Ministry of Information and Communications has appealed to the State House of Assembly for legislative intervention to remove state-owned media organisations from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) platform.
The appeal was made by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, during the 2026 budget defence of the ministry held on Tuesday at the Assembly Complex in Lokoja.
Fanwo explained that removing the Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation (Radio Kogi) and The Graphic Newspapers from the TSA would significantly improve their operational efficiency and overall performance. He noted that the current TSA arrangement has continued to pose challenges to the smooth running of the media outfits.
The Commissioner, who was represented at the session by the Director-General of Radio Kogi, Princess Nana Hauwa Yusuff, stressed that delays associated with TSA processes often hinder timely execution of programmes and routine operations within the state-owned media organisations.
In addition, Fanwo called for the strict enforcement of an existing circular directing all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as Boards and Commissions, to patronise the Kogi State Printing Press. According to him, full compliance with the directive is critical to boosting internally generated revenue (IGR) within the information sector.
Earlier, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information and Member Representing Ogori-Magongo Constituency, Hon. Bode Ogunmola, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to strengthening the state’s information sector in line with its constitutional responsibilities.
Hon. Ogunmola (APC–Ogori-Magongo) assured that the 8th Kogi State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, remains dedicated to approving budgets that genuinely reflect the needs and aspirations of the people of the state.
He observed that prevailing security challenges across the country underscore the need for stronger information strategies, supported by enhanced capacity within the state’s information apparatus.
“As representatives, we are ready to examine your proposals carefully, taking into account last year’s performance records and the emerging needs of MDAs in justifying the 2026 budget submissions,” he said.
The lawmaker further assured the committee’s readiness to work closely with the Ministry of Information and other relevant stakeholders to advance Kogi State’s information management system.
