Google Names Natasha Akpoti Nigeria’s Most Searched Person of 2025

Senator Natasha Akpoti has dominated Google’s 2025 Year in Search in Nigeria, emerging as the most searched public figure in a year marked by political drama, cultural shifts, and global tensions.
Google said the Kogi Central senator drew “unprecedented public interest,” as Nigerians repeatedly turned to the platform to follow her growing national influence.
The search trends show Nigerians were deeply engaged with both local developments and global events — from the fast-evolving Israel–Iran conflict to the U.S. elections.
The death of former President Muhammadu Buhari also triggered a significant spike in searches, as Nigerians revisited his record and long-term impact.
In sports, the passing of former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai pushed thousands to Google to relive his most iconic saves and tournament performances.
Music and Nollywood continued to shape digital curiosity.
Tkeyz and Steve Hills’ Oluwatosin (Jesus Is Enough) led the year’s music searches, beating out Fido’s Joy Is Coming and Davido and Omah Lay’s With You.
Nollywood director Kemi Adetiba remained one of the country’s most searched creatives, powered by her hit series To Kill a Monkey, which Google called the “most searched Nigerian show of 2025.”
Online culture also played a big role. The viral “Labubu” craze topped the most-asked questions, while interest surged in the Igbo term “Achalugo,” popularized by the YouTube film Love in Every
Food and wellness curiosity spiked in unexpected directions: Chinchin recipes, Pornstar Martini mixes, and detox-driven Ginger Shots were among the year’s top lifestyle searches.
Google’s West Africa Communications & Public Affairs Manager, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, said the findings capture Nigerians’ active engagement with the world around them.
“The Year in Search is more than numbers — it’s a mirror of the stories, people, and moments that shaped our national conversation in 2025.”
