Bishop Amatu Mourns Passing of Bro. Lawrence Nkwoh

***Commends His Devout Christian Legacy

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Okigwe, Most Rev. Solomon A. Amatu, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mr. Lawrence Nkwoh, father of Sr. Mary Eudes Nkwoh of St. Mary’s Parish, Amuzi Obowo, describing his passing as a great loss to the Church and the community.
In a condolence message addressed to Sr. Mary Eudes, Bishop Amatu praised the late Nkwoh—popularly known as Bro. Law—as a man whose entire life was marked by unwavering faith, humility, and service to God.
According to the bishop, the deceased was widely regarded for his peaceful disposition, strong moral character, and wholehearted commitment to the spiritual growth of the Church. He noted that for years, Bro. Law played a pivotal role in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria as a leader of the Maranatha Prayer Group, where he touched many lives through prayer, mentorship, and exemplary Christian living.
“His love for peace, unity and his deep reverence for God were qualities that spoke loudly even without words,” Bishop Amatu wrote. “His contributions to the Body of Christ remain unforgettable, and his life of faith continues to inspire all who encountered him.”
Drawing from the words of St. Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7–8, the bishop said Bro. Law had “fought the good fight” and now rests in the peace of Christ after a life well lived.
Bishop Amatu prayed for God’s comfort upon the bereaved family and for the eternal repose of the deceased.
“May the Lord console you and your family, and may the gentle soul of Bro. Law Nkwoh rest in perfect peace,” he said.
The late Nkwoh is remembered as a committed Christian, a dedicated family man, and a pillar of faith in his community.
