Nigeria Deepens AfCFTA Commitment at Intra-African Trade Fair 2025

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to driving economic integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, joined global leaders at the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) in Algiers.

The Fair, described as a gateway to unlocking Africa’s trade and investment potential, brought together policymakers, business leaders and development partners to discuss strategies for expanding industrial capacity and deepening intra-African commerce.

On the sidelines of the event, Edun held strategic meetings with Afreximbank President, Professor Benedict Oramah, and the Chair of IATF 2025, former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Talks focused on accelerating Nigeria’s trade integration agenda, mobilising investments and positioning the country as a hub for value-added production.

The Minister also participated in sessions such as the Trade Forum, Arise Industrialization Day, Global Africa Day and the CANE Auto Forum, which highlighted Africa’s growing role in global supply chains and its capacity to attract transformative investments.

Speaking after the engagements, Edun stressed that the Tinubu administration’s reforms were creating a more competitive environment for enterprise and trade.
“Nigeria is committed to reforms that strengthen our competitiveness, expand industrial capacity, and support sustainable growth across the continent,” he said.

The Intra-African Trade Fair is one of the continent’s largest platforms for showcasing opportunities under the AfCFTA, with this year’s edition focused on accelerating industrialisation and cross-border collaboration.
