The Federal Government has announced a bold 60% increase in the 2025 health budget—underscoring its commitment to building a healthier, more productive population and positioning human capital development at the centre of Nigeria’s economic renewal.
Speaking at the 2025 Health Sector-Wide Joint Annual Review in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, said the renewed focus on health investment reflects President Bola Tinubu’s vision of inclusive growth anchored on people-centered development.
Director of Information and Public communications, Mohammed Manga in a statement quoted Mr. Edun to have commended the Honourable Minister of Health and Coordinating Minister of Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, for his leadership, accountability, and innovation—qualities he said have made Nigeria’s health sector reforms a model of transparency and global recognition.
He disclosed that the 2025 health budget has risen by almost 60%, while the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) has more than doubled—from ₦131 billion in 2024 to a projected ₦298 billion in 2026. He also announced plans to mobilise ₦150 billion for vaccine procurement, describing the initiative as a strategic investment in both public welfare and private-sector growth.
“The health sector stands out for its transparency and measurable results. It is proof that sound governance can attract investment, strengthen resilience, and promote inclusive development,” Edun said.
In response, Professor Pate welcomed the increased fiscal commitment, pledging continued innovation and partnerships to deepen reforms and deliver quality healthcare to all Nigerians.
