***Rallies PDP to reclaim moral high ground ahead of 2027
The battle for Nigeria’s political soul in 2027 may have just found its loudest voice. Former Jigawa State governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Sule Lamido, has unleashed a searing attack on the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Tinubu administrations of driving the country into despair through “hardship, deceit, and betrayal.”
Addressing an expanded caucus of the PDP in Dutse, Lamido spoke with the authority of a veteran, invoking his four-decade journey in politics to paint a grim picture of Nigeria’s trajectory under APC rule.
“Since Buhari and now Tinubu, Nigerians are suffering. Poverty is everywhere, youths are jobless, the economy is collapsing. They say they are fighting for Nigeria, but in reality, they only fight for themselves and their pockets,” he thundered.
Lamido, who cut his teeth in the radical PRP struggles of 1979, framed his outburst not just as a partisan attack but as a moral call.
Jigawa, he said, had a tradition of integrity, sacrifice, and service to the masses, a heritage that must not be squandered on ‘insults and selfish ambition.’
Against the backdrop of mounting hardship, the ex-governor positioned the PDP as the country’s only hope of redemption. “Tinubu’s government, just like Buhari’s, has failed Nigerians. Instead of relief, there is corruption, hardship, and arrogance of power,” he said.
Yet Lamido’s fury was tempered with resolve. He urged unity and discipline within the PDP, declaring that only through collective strength could the opposition reclaim power and restore hope.
“I believe in Jigawa, I believe in the PDP, and I believe we can reclaim our dignity. Let us not be deceived by empty promises. Let us remember our history and protect our future,” he charged, drawing loud applause.
His intervention, loaded with both fire and nostalgia, is being read as more than a partisan speech.
It signals an intensifying realignment ahead of 2027, a battle where the PDP will seek to cast itself as the custodian of justice and dignity against an APC burdened with broken promises and growing public disillusionment.
