The Kogi State Government has paid glowing tribute to the late Prof. Olu Akerejola, former Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), describing him as a rare patriot whose life was defined by scholarship, service, and a passion for unity.
Prof. Akerejola, an indigene of Ogori in Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area, passed away recently, leaving behind what the government called “an indelible mark on the state and the nation.”
In a condolence message signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Chief Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the government said the late professor embodied the very best of Kogi’s values.
“Prof. Akerejola was an illustrious son of Ogori, a detribalized Nigerian, and a distinguished scholar who dedicated his life to building bridges across ethnic and religious lines,” the statement read.
The government recalled his outstanding leadership at the ITF and his contributions to national development, noting that his intellect, humility, and tireless pursuit of progress earned him respect across divides.
“As a government, we mourn the passing of this great son of Kogi whose life brought pride to our state. His commitment to unity and service to humanity remain a beacon for future generations,” Fanwo said.
He added that the administration stands with the Akerejola family, the Ogori/Magongo community, and the people of Kogi State in mourning the loss, while praying for God’s comfort and strength for the bereaved.
“May his soul find eternal rest and may his legacy of knowledge, service, and unity continue to inspire us all,” the statement concluded.
