Political Winds Shift in Jigawa as 573 APC Members Join PDP

A political tremor is shaking the soil of Jigawa State. 573 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have dumped the ruling party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in what many are calling a strategic move ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The mass defection took place in Sabuwar Dan Masara, a town in Dutse Local Government Area, where the new PDP converts were formally welcomed by party leaders in a colorful gathering on Friday.

Leading the exodus was Mustapha Adamu, popularly known as Shugaba, who declared that their decision was not made lightly—but out of growing discontent.

“We’re tired of being sidelined. The APC no longer represents the values we believed in—fairness, justice, and people-first leadership,” Mustapha said. “The hardship in the land is real, and we believe the PDP offers a more credible path forward.”

With rising economic concerns and increasing political dissatisfaction, the defectors say their choice reflects a broader yearning for leadership that listens and acts.

Welcoming the group, PDP’s Deputy Chairman in Jigawa, Umar Danjani, described the defection as a defining moment for the party in the state.

“This is not just about numbers,” Danjani said. “It’s about a renewed hope and shared vision. These new members bring strength, unity, and the energy we need to rebuild trust in leadership.”

The event signals a renewed momentum for the PDP in the North-West, as political blocs begin realigning in anticipation of 2027. Observers say more grassroots movements like this could redefine the political landscape in the coming months.

As Nigeria marches toward the next election cycle, one thing is clear: the winds of change are picking up speed in Jigawa—and perhaps, across the country.
