From Legacy to Leadership: Kogi Senator Donates 700 Computers to Okene School

The landscape of public education in Kogi Central took a transformative leap on Monday as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan donated 700 computers to Abdul Azeez Attah Memorial College (AAAMCO), Okene—one of the oldest and most respected secondary schools in Northern Nigeria.
The donation marks a bold step in the senator’s campaign to digitize public schools and equip young minds with the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving global economy.
Speaking at the ceremony, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said the initiative reflects her commitment to ensuring that rural students are not left behind in the digital age.
“We cannot prepare children for the future with tools from the past,” she said. “By investing in technology today, we are building a generation that can compete globally tomorrow.”
The senator emphasized that the computers will enhance learning, research, and digital literacy among students, promising that more schools in the district would soon receive similar support.
Community leaders welcomed the move as a turning point. His Royal Highness, the Ohi of Okene, Alhaji Okatahi Mamman, described the intervention as a “legacy gift” and urged students to use the opportunity to rise beyond limitations.
The Principal of AAAMCO, Mr. Paul Amoh, praised the senator’s consistent support for the school. He highlighted past interventions including road infrastructure, classroom renovations, and the provision of solar lighting—projects he said have restored hope and pride within the academic community.
“She is not only modernizing our facilities—she is reshaping our mindset,” Amoh stated.
Representing the alumni, Engr. Yusuf Momohjimoh, National Secretary of the AAAMCO Old Boys Forum, lauded the senator’s gesture as a wake-up call for community ownership and responsibility.
“This goes beyond hardware—it’s a seed for excellence,” he said. “We will do everything to protect and maximise this investment.”
Founded nearly a century ago, AAAMCO has a storied history and a long list of distinguished alumni. Now, with the infusion of cutting-edge technology, it is being repositioned to reclaim its place as a centre of excellence—not just in Kogi State, but in the nation at large.
As the newly installed computer systems flickered to life, so too did a renewed sense of possibility for the students of AAAMCO. In the heart of Okene, a digital future has begun.
