Salem University, Lokoja, celebrated its 18th anniversary on Friday, with Vice Chancellor Prof. Alewo Johnson-Akubo hailing the institution as a divine miracle shaping Nigerian youths into future leaders. In a heartfelt address, Prof. Johnson-Akubo credited the university’s establishment to the visionary efforts of Archbishop Sam Amaga, describing the transformation of the campus from a forest into a thriving educational hub as a testament to divine intervention.
The Vice Chancellor emphasized the university’s commitment to raising change agents and global leaders, aligning with the founder’s vision to provide quality education that transcends mere certification. He urged students to embrace cross-cultural intelligence, remain open-minded, and focus on innovation, resilience, and sacrifice to fulfill their destinies.
Prof. Johnson-Akubo also acknowledged the university’s recent achievements, including the accreditation of eight new courses by the National Universities Commission (NUC), such as Nursing, Anatomy, and Software Engineering. He expressed gratitude to the founder and Chancellor for their foresight and dedication to elevating the institution.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Sunday Okpanachi, reflected on the university’s journey, noting that Salem University has overcome challenges and celebrated victories, all attributed to divine guidance. The anniversary serves as a reminder of the institution’s mission to empower Nigerian youths for leadership roles both locally and globally.
