Tinubu honours Sule Lamido at Book Launch, Applauds Legacy of Political Integrity

Elder statesman and former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, received high commendation and national recognition at the launch of his long-awaited autobiography, “Being True to Myself,” held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.

The event, attended by political figures, scholars, and media professionals, celebrated not only the unveiling of a book but the legacy of a man widely respected for his unwavering principles and bold stance on national issues.
The decade-long project chronicles Lamido’s journey from grassroots activism to national prominence, offering insights into Nigeria’s democratic trajectory.

Speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, hailed Lamido as a courageous and consistent voice in Nigeria’s political space.
“This is more than a book launch—it is the celebration of a political life defined by truth, boldness, and dedication to democratic ideals,” he said.

Despite being a vocal critic of the current administration, Lamido was described as a vital pillar in Nigeria’s political evolution.
According to the Minister, President Tinubu holds deep respect for Lamido’s convictions and reaffirmed his own commitment to democratic inclusion, where opposition is welcomed as a necessary ingredient for national discourse.

“The President believes that every citizen—regardless of political affiliation—deserves a seat at the table. Opposition is not enmity; it is the lifeblood of a healthy democracy,” Idris noted.

Reflecting on the book’s title, the Minister said “Being True to Myself” perfectly captures Lamido’s blunt, principled style of politics.
“It is a title that reflects a man who has never wavered in his convictions. This work will serve as a lasting resource for journalists, students, politicians, and historians.”

Lamido’s publication comes at a time when Nigeria approaches 26 years of uninterrupted democracy. In that context, the Minister took the opportunity to reflect on the Tinubu administration’s reform agenda, acknowledging that while initial changes have been tough, the country is beginning to see signs of macroeconomic stability.

He emphasized the administration’s efforts in national security, revenue generation, and tax reforms, while urging Nigerians to appreciate the sacrifices made, particularly by the military.

“Just like the author we are celebrating today, President Tinubu is deeply committed to the ideals of justice, truth, and shared prosperity,” Idris added.

In closing, the Minister called on other political veterans to follow Lamido’s example by documenting their journeys to help shape future political discourse.
“The wealth of experience that Lamido brings to the table is an asset to the nation. We are glad he chose to share it with the world.”
