In a significant move aimed at alleviating the financial strain on pensioners and families of deceased civil servants, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has directed the immediate release of N3.8 billion for the settlement of gratuities, death benefits, and accrued rights under the Contributory Pension Scheme.
The decision followed mounting calls from pensioners who, for months, have endured financial hardship due to delays caused by the ongoing verification exercise.
This process, although critical for eliminating ghost pensioners, had left many struggling to meet basic needs, especially those relying on the state’s pension system for survival.
In an official statement from the Governor’s spokesperson, Ibraheem Musa, Governor Sani reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rectifying the situation swiftly. “We understand the hardship this has caused our senior citizens, and we are taking immediate action to address it,” Musa quoted the governor as saying.

Sani, who took office in May 2023, made it clear that while the verification exercise is crucial for protecting state resources, the well-being of pensioners remains a top priority.
“These senior citizens gave their best years to the service of the state. It is our duty to honor their sacrifices by ensuring they live their retirement years with dignity,” he remarked.
With this new release, which builds on the N6.6 billion in benefits already disbursed since his administration began, Governor Sani is demonstrating his resolve to restore trust in the state’s pension system. His administration aims to ensure that every pensioner receives their due, without further delay, and that monthly payments are made seamlessly going forward.
While acknowledging the patience of the pensioners, Sani assured them that the verification exercise would soon conclude, with payments resuming as planned. His message to retirees was clear: “Your well-being is at the heart of our policies, and we will continue to fight for your rights.”
This bold step by Governor Sani has been met with widespread appreciation from retirees who have long waited for a solution. It signals a new chapter for pensioners in Kaduna, with the promise of an administration that is not only accountable but also compassionate in ensuring the welfare of those who have served the state.
