***Reaffirms commitment to women’s rights advocacy

POLICE Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), has called for accelerated action on Gender Equality and Girl-Child Education as it reaffirms its commitment to women’s rights advocacy.
National President of POWA, Dr Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun, represented by Dr Mrs Bessie Dantawaye, Chairperson of Kogi State chapter of POWA and wife of the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Gajere Dantawaye, made the call on Saturday in Lokoja
Celebrating the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD) under the theme: “Accelerate Action”, the POWA National President said the advocacy was in the bid to foster an inclusive society where every woman has the opportunity to thrive and excel.
Dr Mrs Egbetokun, emphasized the need for women to support and uplift one another stressing that women’s empowerment was key to societal growth.
According to her, to empower a woman is to empower a child, a family, and ultimately, a nation, adding, “We must take bold steps to support each other and ensure that no woman is left behind in the quest for equality and progress.”
She further encouraged women to be confident, take up leadership roles, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
In her closing remarks, the Chairperson, Dr Mrs. Bessie Dantawaye appreciated the media professionals at the event for their unwavering support and coverage of the event, acknowledging their role in amplifying the voices of women in society.
She urged women to renew their commitment to Gender equality, Girl Child Education, peace, love, and unity.
Our Correspondent reports that the rally commenced with a road walk round the town before returning to the Confluence Hall at the Command Headquarters for an indoor session.
The event, brought together women professionals from various fields of endeavour to discuss gender related Healthcare issues, equality, empowerment of women, and societal progress through insightful lectures.
Two of the Guest Speakers, Inspector Peter Gloria, and Mrs Janet Moses spoke on critical health issues such as personal hygiene, cancer, diabetes and overall wellness while pupils of the Police Children’s School received Guidance and counseling lectures. (Ends)
