THE Made in Nigeria Project Office and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi State Council, have entered into a synergy to support the drive for transformation of Nigeria from consumption to a production nation.
Usman Mohammed Nasir, State Coordinator of the Project Office made the call when he led his management team on a sensitization visit to the NUJ Council Chairman, Alhaji Ademu Seidu Haruna on Wednesday in Lokoja.
Nasir who emphasized the prime position of the Media in the promotion of Made in Nigeria goods said the Project Office would not be able to make the desired progress on the delivery of its core mandate without collaboration of the media professionals.
He said that the vision of the project is to transform the nation from a resource dependent nation into a vibrant hub of production oriented manufacturing country, turning the population into a production nation.
According to him, some of the core mandates of the Project include: “Economic Promotions Through Supporting the Transformation of the Country from Consumption to a Production nation, through Local Manufacturing and Industrialization of the Nation.
“Identification of Moribund Factories, Industries in the Nation and reviving Programmes for Investment through BOOT/FDI/ Method, and Supporting Local Products and brands, Production Development.”
The State Coordinator noted that the Federal Government had taken significant steps in promoting made in Nigeria products in order to avoid over dependence on foreign products.
He stated that the concept which was conceived long ago had received priority attention for actualization through the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
“Nigeria has the potential to become the world’s best economy, Nigerians should believe in themselves and make use of what we produce.
Depending on foreign products does not do the nation any good”, he stated.
Nasir called for propagation of attitudinal change and crave for foreign products among Nigerians as he urged Nigerians to go into Agriculture and delve more into exploration and exploitation of solid minerals with more investments.
Responding the NUJ Kogi Council Chairman, Alhaji Ademu Seidu Haruna thanked the Coordinator and his team for seeming it fit to involve the NUJ in the sensitization drive.
He assured the Coordinator of the Council’s partnership and willingness of members to promote the concept.
The NUJ Chairman noted that the task ahead of the Project Office was massive and would require the collaboration of the rural populace especially, the farmers. (Ends)
