In a bold move to combat the effects of climate change and promote sustainable agriculture, Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has disbursed N3 billion to over 2,381 beneficiaries across 80 communities.
This initiative, launched under the Agro-climate Resilience in Semi-arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project in partnership with the World Bank, has confirmed the government’s focus on sustainable development and food security.
Speaking during the cheque presentation ceremony at the Government House in Lokoja, Governor Ododo emphasized that the Community Revolving Fund (CRF) aligns with his administration’s strategy to enhance agricultural productivity and build climate-resilient communities.
A statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismailia Isah quoted him to have reaffirmed his commitment to providing the necessary support to sustain the project across the state’s 21 local government areas.
The Governor acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing sustainable agriculture and improving livelihoods across Nigeria. He urged beneficiaries to responsibly utilize the funds, ensuring continuity and wider impact within their communities.
Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Engineer Joseph Oluwasegun, highlighted the project’s role in securing food sufficiency and positioning Kogi State as a leader in sustainable agricultural practices.
State Coordinator of ACReSAL, Barrister Ladi Ahmed Jatto, noted that the CRF is an interest-free investment fund, initiated in June 2024, with a proven track record of success. She commended beneficiaries of the first phase for demonstrating effective fund utilization, which led to the continuation of the project.
As part of the disbursement process, beneficiaries were reminded that the fund is a loan guaranteed by the state government and encouraged to leverage it for long-term community development and resilience.
This initiative reflects Kogi State’s proactive approach to addressing climate challenges while empowering communities to embrace sustainable practices, setting a benchmark for other states in Nigeria.
