Senator Dino Melaye who represented Kogi West in the 8th and 9th senate has decried fresh attacks on communities in Oganenigwu ward in Dekina local government area of Kogi state.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, Melaye urged traditional rulers and elders in the area to reinforce local security apparatus to halt the carnage and guard against re-occurence.

Melaye who is aspiring to govern Kogi state under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed dismay that the communities were attacked repeatedly for days since March 29 without help from security agencies and governments at all levels.

He commiserated with the families that lost loved ones and valuables in the unfortunate attacks as he urge them to keep hope alive.

Melaye called on governments to halt the wanton killings and give immediate support to families that have been displaced from their homes and communities by the attacks.

The latest round of attacks started when Odede village was razed to the ground in the early hours of Wednesday, 29 March, 2023.

The attacks spread to other communities causing aged men and women to flee to neighbouring Anyigba, Iyale, Etutekpe and other communities, living as refugees.
