    Umar Namadi wins Jigawa guber polls

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the incumbent deputy governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, as the winner of the state governorship election.

    The electoral umpire announced on Sunday that Namadi won in 26 of the 27 Local Government Areas (LGA) in the state with a total of 618,449 votes.

    Namadi, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), defeated his closest rival, Mustapha Lamido of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who emerged second with a total of
    368,726 votes.

    The candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Aminu Ibrahim, came a distant third with 37,156 votes.

    INEC’s returning officer, Umar Zaiyan, said, “I, Prof. Umar Zaiyan, hereby certify that Umar Namadi of the APC has satisfied the requirements of the law and is declared the winner of the Jigawa governorship election.”

    The state has 2,351,298 registered voters, out of which 1,073,540 voters were accredited for the governorship election. The total number of votes cast was 1,052,793, with 20,226 of them being rejected and the valid votes were 1,032.567.
