APC chieftain rejects Umahi’s 4,000-influencer plan, says Tinubu’s record should speak

An All Progressives Congress chieftain, Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, has questioned the need for the Federal Government to mobilise 4,000 social media influencers to promote President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructure projects ahead of the 2027 elections.
Mumuni said the administration should not require paid voices to convince Nigerians of its achievements, arguing that its economic reforms, institutional changes and infrastructure projects should provide sufficient evidence of its performance.
He was reacting to the plan announced by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to establish a network of 4,000 influencers to publicise federal infrastructure projects, particularly among young Nigerians.
Umahi disclosed the plan on September 22 in Abuja while receiving a report from the National Association of Nigerian Students after their inspection of federal road projects in Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna and Sokoto states.
But Mumuni, in a statement issued by his media aide, Rasheed Abubakar, said the administration’s record should be allowed to speak for itself.
“This government does not need influencers or paid voices to speak for it because the evidence is undeniable,” he said.
The APC chieftain said Tinubu inherited serious economic and institutional challenges and had taken difficult decisions to address them.
According to him, the administration’s policies on economic stabilisation, fiscal responsibility and institutional reforms were part of efforts to place the country on a more sustainable path.
“When this administration assumed office, we were teetering on the edge of an abyss, and our people were crying out in desperation. Yet, in these months, we have witnessed a government that refused to surrender to despair,” he said.
Mumuni also defended the administration against criticism over insecurity and economic hardship, saying many of the challenges predated Tinubu’s administration.
“Basically, we must understand that President Tinubu is not the architect of the crisis we are exiting. He inherited a house on fire and has been working tirelessly to extinguish the flames,” he said.
He argued that the government’s reforms would require time to produce their full effects, urging Nigerians to assess the broader direction of its policies.
Mumuni also called for continued support for the administration, saying another four-year term would give Tinubu more time to complete ongoing programmes.
“Four more years would allow this administration to complete the work it has begun,” he said.
He expressed optimism that continued implementation of the government’s policies could improve security, economic stability and public confidence.
The APC chieftain urged Nigerians to look beyond criticism and maintain confidence in the country’s capacity for development.
“President Tinubu has proven his mettle. Now, we must give him the mandate to finish what he has started. Our nation’s future depends on it,” Mumuni said.
