Moghalu Rejects Atiku Campaign Role, Says ‘I Was Not Consulted’

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has disowned his reported inclusion in former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s policy team for the 2027 presidential election.
Moghalu said he was neither consulted nor asked for his consent before his name was published as a member of the policy team backing the African Democratic Congress presidential campaign.
The former CBN deputy governor, in a statement on Thursday, described the development as surprising and made it clear that he had no role in Atiku’s campaign structure.
“For the record, I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team,” Moghalu stated.
He went further, stressing that he was not a member of Atiku’s policy team “even unofficially or in any advisory capacity.”
Moghalu’s rejection came as political parties and opposition figures intensify preparations and alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The former presidential candidate also disclosed that he had quit partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022, insisting that he had deliberately maintained a non-partisan position in the country’s political affairs.
“I am not a member or sympathizer of any political party in Nigeria,” he said.
Moghalu said his current work was centred on public policy and geopolitical risk, identifying himself as President of IGET Africa, a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy, and Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.
He also drew a clear line between his commitment to Nigeria and support for any political platform.
“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail ANY partisan alignment,” he said.
“I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship.”
His statement effectively distances him from the reported ADC campaign appointment and places his name outside the political alignment being assembled around Atiku ahead of the 2027 contest.
