The Nigeria Democratic Congress has challenged those accusing the opposition party of selling political tickets and collecting illegal payments from aspirants to produce evidence.
It warned that it may resort to legal action over what it described as false claims.
The party, in a statement on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, described the allegations as “deliberate misinformation and propaganda” aimed at damaging its reputation ahead of the 2027 elections.
The NDC said it was financing its operations through donations, levies and contributions from aspirants, members, stakeholders and well-wishers as it builds a nationwide political structure.
It stressed that the funds were paid into its designated account, receipted and managed by the appropriate party organs.
The party also denied that its National Leader demanded or personally received money from any aspirant.
“The National Leader of our party neither demanded nor received any money from any aspirant for personal use,” the statement said.
The NDC challenged anyone who claimed to have paid money to an individual outside the party’s designated account to come forward with evidence.
“Anyone who claims to have paid money to any individual other than the designated party account should come forward with proof. The NDC will not shield anyone,” it said.
The party also denied selling its presidential and vice-presidential tickets, saying both were offered free because of its confidence in the candidates.
It added that the same principle applied to several other candidates across the country.
The NDC said building a new opposition party and fielding candidates across multiple constituencies required substantial resources.
However, it insisted that legitimate contributions to party operations should not be mistaken for ticket sales or personal payments.
The opposition party said it would render a full account of its finances in line with the Electoral Act and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
It also accused unnamed opposition figures and “sponsored elements” of spreading the allegations because of the NDC’s growing popularity, although it provided no evidence to support the claim.
The party said its leadership was considering legal action against those it accused of spreading false information.
Defending its National Leader, the NDC cited his public service record and described his lifestyle as one marked by “integrity, honesty and simplicity.”
The party maintained that its political activities were funded by legitimate contributions and not money allegedly diverted from government coffers.
It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, due process and justice, insisting that the allegations would not derail its preparations for the 2027 elections.
“The NDC is here to salvage Nigeria, and no amount of propaganda will stop the movement,” the statement added.
