Uber has announced its withdrawal from Nigeria after 12 years of operations, bringing its ride-hailing services in the country to an end effective September 2, 2026.
The company said the decision followed a thorough review of its business, marking the end of its operations in Nigeria since it launched in Lagos in 2014.
Uber apologised to customers for any disruption caused by the decision, acknowledging the inconvenience the exit may create for riders who have relied on its platform.
The ride-hailing company faced several challenges during its 12-year presence in Nigeria, including protests by drivers over fares, working conditions and the company’s treatment of drivers.
Uber said its Help Centre will remain available until September 23, 2026, to assist customers with final account-related enquiries.
The exit marks a significant development in Nigeria’s ride-hailing industry, where Uber had become one of the major players in the urban transportation market.
