The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, to appear for questioning after declaring him wanted over an alleged $14.86 million fraud.
EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale said Sylva should make himself available to the commission.
“He has been declared wanted; he should make himself available to the commission,” Oyewale said.
The statement came shortly after Sylva announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday.
In his resignation letter dated August 31, 2026, Sylva accused the EFCC of acting increasingly like an organ of the APC rather than a state institution. He said he copied the commission on his resignation letter because he feared the decision could lead to further investigations against him and his associates.
Sylva also criticised the APC-led Federal Government, saying it had failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
The former governor was declared wanted by the EFCC in November 2025 over allegations of conspiracy and dishonest conversion involving $14,859,257.
He is also a defendant in a separate 13-count federal charge linked to alleged treason, terrorism-related offences, conspiracy and money laundering. Sylva has denied involvement in the alleged plot.
In May 2026, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted an interim forfeiture order covering nine properties allegedly linked to him following an EFCC application.
Sylva served as Bayelsa State governor from 2007 to 2012 and later became Minister of State for Petroleum Resources under former President Muhammadu Buhari
