The Ademola Adeleke Campaign Organisation has raised fresh concerns over the ongoing collation of results from Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, alleging moves to frustrate the process and force the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the poll inconclusive.
The campaign council, in a statement signed by the Chairman of its Media and Publicity Committee, Rep. Bamidele Salam, on Saturday, claimed that pressure was being mounted on INEC by unnamed governors and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to halt the declaration of the result.
The council described the alleged plot as an attempt to overturn the choice of Osun voters, urging the electoral commission to remain firm and ensure that the outcome of the election reflects votes legitimately cast at polling units.
The campaign’s warning came as political tension mounted across the state following the conclusion of voting and the commencement of result collation.
Salam also alleged that ballot boxes had been hijacked at some polling units by suspected thugs, calling on security agencies to investigate the incidents and bring those responsible to justice.
Concerned about possible disruption at collation centres, the campaign organisation appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services and the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to strengthen security around the centres.
It urged security agencies to prevent any attempt to interfere with the collation process, stressing that the integrity of the final result depended largely on what happens at the various collation centres.
The Adeleke camp also called on local and international observers to closely monitor the remaining stages of the election and speak out against any development capable of undermining the credibility of the process.
The campaign further invoked President Bola Tinubu’s reported call for a credible Osun election, arguing that the exercise would serve as an important test of Nigeria’s preparedness for the 2027 general elections.
It urged INEC to resist political pressure and complete the collation process transparently, insisting that the eventual winner should emerge solely from the votes cast by the people of Osun State.
The allegations could not immediately be independently verified, while INEC had not publicly responded to the claim at the time of filing this report.
