The Presidency has hit back at the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, over his criticism of the Bola Tinubu administration, insisting that the achievements of the Renewed Hope government are visible across the country.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Communication Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Obi’s latest criticism as a product of what he called the “high of his rabid movement.”
Onanuga, in a post on his verified X account on Monday, said Obi needed to look beyond his political supporters and acknowledge what he described as the impact of the administration’s policies and projects across the six geopolitical zones.
Reacting to Obi’s comments on the Renewed Hope Agenda, Onanuga said, “Obi needs to get off the high of his rabid movement.”
He added that the administration’s “unmistakable trail of Renewed Hope” could be seen in villages, towns, cities and local government areas across the country.
According to the presidential aide, members of the Presidential Communication Team had been touring the six geopolitical zones to assess the impact of government programmes, interact with Nigerians and relay feedback to the administration.
Onanuga said the team’s findings were being documented in a digital repository containing reports on what he described as Nigeria’s economic turnaround under Tinubu.
He specifically cited programmes and policies including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, as examples of initiatives he said were delivering tangible benefits to citizens.
“If Obi cares, there’s a digital binder full of reports of Nigeria’s economic turnaround under the current administration, inclusive of many transformative projects, policies, and programmes, such as NELFUND, that are impacting Nigerians at the critical cellular level,” Onanuga said.
The exchange comes amid renewed political criticism of the Tinubu administration as political parties and opposition figures intensify their campaigns and policy arguments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While Obi has continued to question the government’s economic performance and the effect of its policies on Nigerians, the Presidency has maintained that the administration’s reforms are producing results and laying the foundation for sustained economic growth.
The latest war of words further underscores the widening political divide ahead of the 2027 elections, with the Presidency increasingly defending the administration’s record against opposition attacks.
