The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has unveiled TaxPorta, a digital tax administration platform designed to simplify tax payments, improve service delivery and boost voluntary tax compliance across the nation’s capital.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement with commercial banks and Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) operating under the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) in Abuja, Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT-IRS, Michael Ango, described the platform as a major step in the agency’s drive to modernise tax administration through technology.
Ango said commercial banks and treasury-funded MDAs remain critical partners in the tax system, noting that their successful integration into the TaxPorta platform would significantly strengthen compliance and enhance the efficiency of tax administration.
According to him, the digital platform offers a secure and user-friendly interface that enables employers, tax agents and individual taxpayers to file tax returns, make payments and access a range of tax services without the delays associated with manual processes.
He said the initiative reflects the Service’s commitment to encouraging voluntary tax compliance through efficient, transparent and technology-driven service delivery.
The FCT-IRS boss urged residents and organisations to fulfil their civic responsibility by filing accurate tax returns and paying their taxes promptly, stressing that internally generated revenue remains vital for sustainable development.
Ango linked improved tax compliance to the ongoing transformation of the Federal Capital Territory under the leadership of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, saying revenues generated from taxes would help sustain and expand ongoing infrastructure projects.
“Government exists to provide critical infrastructure and quality public services. As residents have witnessed remarkable development across the FCT in recent years, it is important for everyone to support these efforts by fulfilling their tax obligations,” he said.
Earlier, Director of Tax Operations (Corporate, MDAs and International Organisations), Salome Adeyemi, said the Service was committed to ensuring a smooth transition to the new platform while providing efficient support to taxpayers.
She noted that the engagement also enabled stakeholders to provide feedback that would help improve service delivery and strengthen the Territory’s tax administration system.
Also speaking, Tax Controller for Commercial Banks and IPPIS MDAs, Hadiza Shettima, described the forum as an opportunity to appreciate stakeholders while introducing them to the features of the TaxPorta platform.
She explained that the digital solution empowers taxpayers to independently file returns, make payments, generate tax assessments and obtain Tax Clearance Certificates with minimal human intervention.
Shettima also conducted a live demonstration of the onboarding process and guided participants on generating tax assessments in line with the provisions of the new tax law.
The engagement concluded with an interactive session during which participants raised questions and received clarifications from FCT-IRS officials, unqderscoring the agency’s commitment to transparency, stakeholder collaboration and improved taxpayer services.
