The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has launched a new digital TaxPortal aimed at simplifying tax payment, improving compliance and expanding the Territory’s revenue base through technology-driven tax administration.
The Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT-IRS, Mr. Michael Ango, unveiled the platform on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ engagement with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Abuja, describing the initiative as a major step towards modernising tax administration in the nation’s capital.
According to him, the TaxPortal provides taxpayers with a one-stop digital platform where they can register, file tax returns, make payments and access other tax-related services without the need for physical visits to tax offices.

“The TaxPortal is a modern tax management system specifically customised to meet your needs. It allows you to register, file returns, make payments and access other tax services conveniently from the comfort of your homes or offices,” Ango said.
He explained that the digital platform was introduced as part of the Service’s broader efforts to make tax administration more transparent, efficient and user-friendly.
Technology Driving Better Tax Administration
Ango said the Service was committed to leveraging technology to strengthen voluntary tax compliance while improving service delivery to taxpayers.
He stressed that although the FCT-IRS possesses statutory powers to enforce tax compliance, its priority remains educating taxpayers and making the payment process easier.
“Our objective is not merely enforcement but encouraging voluntary compliance through stakeholder engagement, taxpayer education and improved service delivery,” he said.
The Acting Chairman called on government institutions, businesses and individual taxpayers to embrace the new platform, saying greater compliance would translate into higher revenue for infrastructure and public services.
Revenue Key to FCT Development
Ango noted that the ongoing transformation of the Federal Capital Territory through road construction, public infrastructure and other developmental projects demonstrates the importance of tax revenue.
He said sustained compliance would enable the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike, to execute more capital projects and improve service delivery across the Territory.
Stakeholders Receive Hands-on Demonstration
The engagement featured practical sessions on the operation of the new portal.
Director of Tax Operations (Corporate, MDAs and International Organisations), Mrs. Salome Adeyemi, encouraged stakeholders to adopt the platform for seamless taxpayer registration, filing of returns, tax payments and processing of Tax Clearance Certificates.
She expressed optimism that the portal would strengthen collaboration between the Service and taxpayers while boosting internally generated revenue.
Also speaking, Ms. Fatima Abubakar briefed participants on the Federal Government’s ongoing tax reforms, while the Director of Information and Communication Technology, Mr. Ayokanmi Ogunwumiju, demonstrated the integrated Payment Solution Service Providers (PSSPs), showcasing the platform’s security features, speed and ease of use.
The stakeholders’ engagement forms part of the FCT-IRS’ ongoing digital transformation agenda aimed at making tax administration more accessible, transparent and efficient while encouraging voluntary compliance among residents and businesses in the Federal Capital Territory.
