The Labour Party(LP) has praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for reinstating its candidate for the forthcoming Enugu North Senatorial District by-election after an earlier omission from the list of cleared contestants.
In a statement issued on June 13, the party said the correction followed engagements with the electoral body after its candidate and the party were initially left out of the list for the June 20, 2026 poll despite fulfilling all required legal and constitutional conditions.
The party described INEC’s decision as a demonstration of fairness and responsiveness, noting that the restoration of its candidate has cleared the way for its full participation in the by-election.
Labour Party also expressed confidence in the leadership of INEC, stating that the commission’s action reinforced public trust in the electoral process and adherence to due process.
The party thanked its members, supporters and well-wishers for their concern and steadfast support during the period of uncertainty surrounding its participation in the election.
As campaigns enter the final stretch, Labour Party called on voters in Enugu North to support its candidate, while also wishing its flagbearers in other upcoming by-elections across the country success at the polls.
The party said it remains optimistic that the elections will strengthen democratic governance and further promote confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system.
