The National Examinations Council (NECO) has raised an alarm over the activities of fraudsters operating fake online portals used to deceive unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of recruiting examination supervisors.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Minna, the Council’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Mallam Azeez Sani, disowned the fraudulent platforms, stressing that NECO is not collecting payments from applicants for any supervisory roles in its examinations.
According to him, the fake portals have been requesting applicants to submit academic credentials and make payments, a practice he described as criminal and misleading.
“NECO wishes to alert members of the public of the existence of fake online portals for the recruitment of examination supervisors,” the statement said.
He reiterated that the Council does not charge any fees for the recruitment of supervisors for the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal.
Mallam Sani explained that, in line with reforms aimed at improving examination integrity, NECO has transitioned from analogue recruitment processes to a fully digital system for selecting supervisors and assistant supervisors.
He stated that eligible applicants—qualified pensionable teachers on Grade Level 12 and above, not below 30 years of age—are to apply only through the official NECO recruitment portal at https://supervisor.neco.gov.ng.
According to him, the recruitment process is fully automated and does not involve third-party agents or intermediaries.
He added that the new system is designed to curb fraud, reduce malpractice, and ensure fairness and transparency in the selection of examination personnel.
The Council further disclosed that no fewer than 22,000 supervisors will be engaged nationwide for the 2026 SSCE Internal, scheduled to commence on June 15, 2026.
