Presidency Knocks Peter Obi Over ADC Exit, Calls Him ‘Political Nomad’

The Nigerian Presidency has fired back at former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi following his decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC), branding him a “political nomad” and questioning his consistency.
In a post on X, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, dismissed Obi’s explanation for quitting the party as weak and self-serving. He described the former Anambra governor’s justification as “puerile” and lacking logical grounding.
Onanuga argued that Obi’s political moves reflect opportunism, accusing him of avoiding competitive party environments. He claimed Obi was unwilling to battle established figures like Atiku Abubakar or Rotimi Amaechi within the ADC, opting instead for what he called an “easier path” ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We told you so. The political nomad is on the move again,” Onanuga stated, adding that Obi frequently criticizes the government without engaging in self-reflection.
Earlier, Obi announced his exit from the ADC, citing deepening internal crises, legal disputes, and what he described as growing toxicity within the party. He maintained that his political decisions are driven by a commitment to national development, not personal ambition, emphasizing that he is focused on building a better Nigeria rather than securing power at all costs.
The development sets the stage for renewed political realignments as the race toward 2027 gradually takes shape.
