Ndume: Nigeria Can Defeat Insecurity in Six Months With Strong Political Will

Senator Ali Ndume has argued that Nigeria’s worsening security challenges could be brought under control within six months if the Federal Government shows decisive commitment and political will.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the senator representing Borno South in Borno State said the solution to insecurity is not a lack of capacity but the absence of consistent execution of security strategies.
Ndume maintained that with properly trained, well-equipped, and motivated personnel, the military could significantly turn the tide against insurgency and other threats across the country.
He stressed the need for improved intelligence gathering, modern technology such as drones, and stronger operational coordination, noting that Nigeria already has capable security personnel who only require better support systems.
The senator also lamented continued losses among security forces in the North-East, describing recent incidents as evidence of gaps in operational effectiveness that must be urgently addressed.
While acknowledging ongoing interventions by state authorities, he praised the efforts of Babagana Zulum in stabilizing parts of Borno State, even as he warned that the security situation remains fragile.
Ndume further called for greater investment in technology-driven warfare and intelligence-led operations, arguing that modern tools such as drones and command centres could significantly reduce the scale of violence if properly deployed.
His remarks come amid renewed attacks and rising insecurity concerns across northern Nigeria, including incidents involving insurgents and other armed groups.
