President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, pending Senate confirmation.
The announcement was made through the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, noting that the move follows Section 8(1) of the CBN Act, 2007. Yuguda succeeds Mr. Bala Bello, who was recently appointed Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.
President Tinubu urged Yuguda to bring renewed professionalism, dedication, and commitment to sustaining Nigeria’s economic stability and growth.
A seasoned banker and financial expert, Yuguda’s most recent public role was as Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission from 2020 to 2024. His academic foundation includes a B.Sc. in Accountancy from Ahmadu Bello University (1983) and a master’s in Money, Banking and Finance from the University of Birmingham (1991).
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a CFA charterholder. Yuguda began his career at the CBN in 1984 as Senior Supervisor in the Foreign Operations Department, later joining the International Monetary Fund as an economist for the Africa Department (1997–2001) before returning to serve as Director of the Reserve Management Department until 2016.
With decades of experience spanning central banking, finance, and economic policy, Yuguda is poised to play a critical role in shaping Nigeria’s monetary landscape.
