In a move aimed at recognizing dedication and motivating university employees, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Dutse (FUD), Professor Ahmad Muhammed Gumel, has announced plans to introduce an Annual Staff Excellence Award. The initiative will spotlight staff who demonstrate exceptional commitment in their various departments, rewarding those who go above and beyond in sustaining the university’s operations.
Professor Gumel highlighted the importance of celebrating consistent effort. “Our staff are the engine of this institution. It’s time we formally recognize those who show up every day, committed to keeping FUD moving forward,” he said. “Acknowledging excellence motivates individuals and strengthens the entire system.”
The Vice-Chancellor revealed that both teaching and non-teaching staff who excel will be compiled annually and recognized. “Excellence will be rewarded, and accountability will be enforced. Every staff member must take their role seriously,” he added.
Professor Gumel also shared plans to complement the award with broader staff welfare initiatives. These include upgrading the university clinic to ensure optimal medical care for both staff and students, enhancing staff training programs, providing financial support, and ensuring timely promotions. Improvements in staff housing are also on the agenda, reflecting his administration’s commitment to a supportive working environment.
“Our approach is staff- and student-centered,” Professor Gumel emphasized. “When staff thrive, students thrive, and the university as a whole succeeds.”
By introducing the Staff Excellence Award and strengthening welfare programs, Professor Gumel hopes to cultivate a culture of high performance, accountability, and recognition at FUD. “We want every staff member to know that hard work does not go unnoticed and that their contributions directly impact the growth and reputation of this university,” he concluded.
