***Says it’s a national shame
The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 3l2923 general election, Peter Obi has sharply criticized the latest collapse of Nigeria’s national power grid, which has left vast areas of the country in darkness. He labeled the situation a “national shame,” highlighting it as evidence of persistent leadership failures and inadequate policy execution.
Writing on his x-handle on Tuesday, Obi raised concerns about the prolonged suffering of Nigerians due to a power infrastructure that consistently falls short of meeting essential needs.
He underscored the crucial role of reliable electricity in economic transformation, particularly for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which are vital for job creation and overall economic health.
Comparing Nigeria’s power generation to that of other African nations, Obi pointed out that while Nigeria produces under 10,000 megawatts, countries like South Africa and Egypt generate more than 40,000 megawatts each. This stark contrast, he argued, reflects a deep-seated governance crisis hindering Nigeria’s growth.
In his call to action, Obi urged for immediate and comprehensive reforms, asserting that Nigerians deserve a government focused on measurable progress. He concluded with an optimistic vision: “A new Nigeria is possible.”
