President Bola Tinubu has nominated renowned fiscal policy expert, Taiwo Oyedele, as the new Minister of State for Finance, further reshaping his economic team amid ongoing reforms.
The nomination was formally communicated to the Senate on Tuesday for confirmation.
Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that the President transmitted Oyedele’s name in a letter addressed to Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
“President Tinubu has today conveyed the nomination of Oyedele to the Senate for confirmation,” Onanuga stated.
As part of the cabinet adjustment, Doris Uzoka-Anite will move to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State. The reassignment marks her third portfolio in the Tinubu administration.
The reshuffle is seen as part of broader efforts to consolidate fiscal reforms and strengthen economic coordination across key ministries.
Oyedele is no stranger to the administration’s reform agenda. In 2023, President Tinubu appointed him Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms — a body established to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system and improve revenue generation.
Before his nomination, he was a fiscal policy partner and Africa tax leader at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he spent over two decades shaping tax policy advisory across the continent.
Widely respected in policy and corporate circles, Oyedele combines professional practice with academia. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
His executive education includes programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
He currently serves as a professor at Babcock University and is also a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
If confirmed by the Senate, Oyedele is expected to play a central role in deepening tax reforms, enhancing fiscal transparency, and strengthening revenue mobilisation — critical pillars of Tinubu’s economic recovery strategy.
His nomination underscores the administration’s continued reliance on technocrats to drive structural reforms in Nigeria’s financial architecture.
The Senate is expected to commence confirmation proceedings in the coming days.
