A sweeping digital learning initiative is underway in Kogi Central as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan rolls out technology devices to primary and secondary schools across the district’s five local government areas.
The programme, which spans Okene, Ajaokuta, Adavi, Okehi and Ogori-Magongo LGAs, marks a significant step in the Senator’s broader agenda to modernise public education and equip students with skills suited for a technology-driven global economy.
During visits to beneficiary schools, the lawmaker described digital literacy as indispensable in today’s world, stressing that rural communities must not be left behind in the fast-paced evolution of education.
“Digital education is no longer a privilege reserved for a few. It is a necessity. If we want our children to compete globally and seize emerging opportunities, we must provide them with the right tools today,” she said.
According to her, the initiative is designed to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural schools while expanding students’ access to global knowledge platforms beyond conventional classroom instruction.
Beneficiary institutions include LGEA Primary School and LGEA Standard College, Ganaja (Ajaokuta LGA); Adavi Local Government Science Secondary School, Nagazi-Eba; LGEA Demonstration Nursery and Primary School, Eika Ohizenyi; Government Day Science Secondary School, Ohueta; LGEA Central (Cluster) Schools, Obeiba-Ihima; Government Science Secondary School, Ogori-Magongo; and Abdulazeez Atta Memorial College, Okene.
At LGEA Central (Cluster) Schools, Obeiba-Ihima, where 200 tablets were delivered, head teachers described the donation as a turning point that would expose pupils to global learning resources and strengthen foundational digital skills early in life.
School administrators across the district commended the intervention as timely and forward-looking. At Adavi Local Government Science Secondary School, the principal noted that the devices would significantly enhance teaching methods and student engagement.
The initiative also builds on earlier educational support by the Senator, including the distribution of school uniforms, sandals, school bags and financial assistance for indigent pupils.
Reaffirming her commitment, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said education remains central to sustainable development.
“When we invest in education, we invest in the future of our communities. Technology will define tomorrow’s economy, and our children must be prepared not just to participate but to lead.”
Community leaders and parents described the rollout as more than a donation exercise, calling it a strategic move toward inclusive development for schools that previously lacked access to digital infrastructure.
With the deployment of the devices, the Senator has signalled sustained efforts to integrate technology into classroom learning across Kogi Central — a move aimed at nurturing a digitally empowered generation ready for innovation, creativity and global competitiveness.
