The Senator representing Katsina Central, Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, has described the death of Mpigi Barinada as a profound loss to the Senate, Rivers State, and the entire nation.
In a statement released on Friday, Yar’Adua paid tribute to the late Rivers South-East lawmaker, portraying him as a committed nationalist whose political career was defined by bridge-building and service to humanity.
According to the Katsina senator, Mpigi stood out in the 10th Senate as a voice of moderation and unity, consistently working to strengthen cooperation across political, ethnic, and regional lines. He said the late lawmaker believed strongly in Nigeria’s diversity as a foundation for growth rather than division.
“Senator Mpigi was a dedicated public servant who understood that leadership is about improving lives and fostering national cohesion,” Yar’Adua said. “His passion for progress and his unwavering commitment to his constituents earned him widespread respect.”
He noted that Mpigi’s legislative journey — from the House of Representatives to the Senate — reflected a steady commitment to advancing development in Rivers State while contributing meaningfully to national discourse.
Yar’Adua further described him as a champion of progressive ideas who carried out his duties with humility and integrity. He said his experience and counsel will be sorely missed within the Red Chamber.
Extending condolences on behalf of the people of Katsina Central and his family, Yar’Adua sympathised with Mpigi’s family, constituents, and the Government and people of Rivers State.
He prayed for divine comfort for all who mourn and for the peaceful repose of the late senator’s soul, noting that his legacy of unity and dedicated service will endure.
