Former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Elder Simon Achuba, has felicitated with Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) on his appointment as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing the development as a triumph of merit, competence, and integrity.

In a statement personally signed by him, Achuba said Professor Amupitan’s elevation was well-deserved, given his outstanding academic, professional, and leadership credentials that have distinguished him in Nigeria’s legal and educational circles.

“This appointment is a reward for hard work, discipline, and an unblemished record of service. Professor Amupitan has, over the years, demonstrated uncommon integrity and brilliance that make him eminently qualified to lead Nigeria’s electoral institution at this crucial time,”
    Achuba stated.

The former Deputy Governor expressed confidence that the new INEC helmsman will bring his vast experience, sound judgment, and moral strength to bear in driving far-reaching reforms that would reposition the electoral umpire for credibility, transparency, and efficiency.

He urged Professor Amupitan to anchor his leadership on the rule of law, fairness, and national unity, adding that Nigerians are eager to see a new era of trust in the nation’s electoral process.

“I have no doubt that Professor Amupitan will chart a new course for INEC — one that restores faith in our democracy and ensures that every vote truly counts,”
    Achuba added.

Achuba further congratulated the people of Kogi State and the North-Central region, noting that Professor Amupitan’s appointment marks the first time anyone from the zone will head the nation’s electoral body — a development he described as historic and inspiring.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for making a bold and thoughtful choice that reflects equity, inclusion, and meritocracy.

“By this appointment, President Tinubu has once again demonstrated his commitment to building a Nigeria where excellence, not ethnicity, defines leadership opportunities,”
    he said.

Elder Achuba prayed that God grants Professor Amupitan divine wisdom and courage to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions and reposition the electoral system for enduring credibility.

“This is a defining moment for our democracy,” he concluded. “With the right leadership, INEC can truly become a symbol of national trust and democratic excellence.”
