The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, has rolled out scholarships to 250 indigent students from Mariga Local Government Area, reaffirming his commitment to making education the cornerstone of his legislative and constituency agenda.
The beneficiaries, drawn from tertiary institutions across the country, are being supported under the Malikiyya Education Foundation, an initiative established by the Speaker to advance educational development and expand access to higher learning for less-privileged students in his constituency.
Beyond the scholarships, the foundation has also announced free registration for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination for 300 candidates from Mariga LGA.
The registration exercise is scheduled to commence on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the Sani Bello Foundation in Kontagora, one of the accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in the state.
Fees Offset at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University
Speaking during a visit to Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, where he offset school fees for some of the benefiting students, the Chairman of the foundation, Alhaji Salisu Tukur (Alkali Bobi), said the initiative targets all indigent students of Mariga origin studying in higher institutions anywhere in Nigeria.
He explained that the visit to IBBU was part of a nationwide tour of tertiary institutions with significant numbers of Mariga indigenes, aimed at directly settling their tuition obligations.
According to him, the foundation remains steadfast in its mission to empower the youth of Mariga through education and equal opportunity.
While acknowledging ongoing interventions in other sectors, he emphasized that the Speaker has deliberately prioritized education.
“He has picked education as his priority, hence the need to establish the Malikiyya Education Foundation to cater for the less privileged,” he said.
The initiative has been widely described as a strategic investment in human capital development, expected to ease financial burdens on families and boost tertiary enrollment from the constituency.
